Camino del Norte or Camino de Santiago

Camino del norte is a the route of Camino de Santiago. Its origin dates back to the very discovery of the Apostle’s tomb, when Alfonso II el Casto made a pilgrimage from Oviedo, capital of the young Asturian Kingdom, to contemplate the newly discovered tomb.
It was the Primitive Way that went to the Holy Place through Tineo, Fonsagrada and Lugo, crossing the mountain range of the Cantabrian Mountains. It didn’t take long for his pilgrim subjects to realize that, following the route of the Cantabrian coast, the journey was much less difficult; The Coastal Path was born. As the Asturian kingdom extends its dominions, the news of the appearance of the Sepulcher spreads and the pilgrimages that take place along the coast, sheltered by the dangerous southern lands occupied by the Arabs, increase.
The complete Camino is made in common use for the entrance of pilgrims from continental Europe who enter the peninsula through Irún or for those who, by sea, arrive at land in the Basque, Cantabrian or Asturian ports, continuing west to the shelter from the dangers of Muslim troops.
